UPDATE 7/19/17: Arrest made in Fridley murder case
The investigation of the murder of a 17-year-old male in the city of Fridley led to a suspect being identified. That suspect was actively pursued and taken into custody by officers from the Minneapolis Police Department. The suspect is in custody at the Anoka County Jail.
The suspect is identified as: Zakariya Hassan Ahmed, DOB: 10-24-1997, 4242 46th Avenue N, Robbinsdale, MN
The suspect has been arrested BUT HAS NOT YET BEEN CHARGED. The case is under review by the Anoka County Attorney's Office who will decide if/what charges are appropriate. The suspect's booking photo is available from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office website jail booking section. There will be no further information or details released until a formal complaint is issued and filed.

Murder Investigation in Fridley
On July 17, 2017 at 0112 hrs, Officers from the Fridley Police Department were dispatched to a call of a “male not breathing” on the side of the road in the 7600 block of Meadowmoor Drive NE. Upon the arrival of the Fridley Officers, they discovered a male who was determined to be deceased. The death is being investigated as a murder.
The decedent is a 17-year-old male who lives in the city of Fridley. The manner of death indicates foul play. The identity of the victim will not be released now pending notification of relatives.
This is still a very active investigation that is in its beginning stages. There is very little information that we will be releasing at this point, but there will be updates as events warrant.
The case is under the investigation of the Fridley Police Department, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

University Avenue NE and Osborne Rd NE: Fatal Accident

June 1, 2017 

On Thursday June 1st, 2017 at 1:31pm, officers from the Fridley Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of University Avenue NE and Osborne Rd NE for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Initial reports indicated that the pedestrian was possibly deceased. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the pedestrian had passed away. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a UPS delivery vehicle. The driver of the delivery vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. The initial investigation revealed that the UPS truck was traveling northbound on University Ave and was in the process of making a right-hand turn onto eastbound Osborne Rd. The pedestrian was traveling westbound across the northbound lanes of University Ave in the marked crosswalk when she was struck. Authorities are working to determine who had the right of way at the time of the crash. The pedestrian has been identified as a 78 year old female resident of Spring Lake Park. This case is currently under investigation by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Fridley Police Department.
